Lutherans have a long history of using our voice to speak out on behalf of issues of justice. It is part of our calling as the people of God. Here is a letter from the 3 Bishops in the state of Iowa to Governor Branstad regarding the current issue of welcoming refugees from Syria.

Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch, Iowa currently has an opening for a part-time organist/pianist. This individual will assist and give leadership to the worship services of Bethany Lutheran and his/her gifts will help lift the congregation in music for the praise of God. Potential candidates must be proficient in playing organ and piano, have some knowledge of Christian worship and music, and be able to work with others. Thank you faithful people of God! Once again you responded to God’s amazing grace in reaching out with that love to others. Through our October drive to raise awareness of Domestic Violence and provide donations to the Domestic Violence Intervention Program or shelter in Iowa City we raised $250 to buy Hy-Vee Gift Cards and there were a handful of other donations that will help those trying to safely exit a dangerous relationship. I invite you to the Grace Gathering to be held in partnership with the 2016 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in New Orleans Aug. 10-13. Grace Gathering will bring people together from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Participants will see the church in action, worship with Churchwide Assembly voting members, engage in experiential learning, and attend a variety of workshops that will equip congregations and synods with tools to prepare for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.

Reminder, there will be a resource fair of faith-filled videos and books that kids will love following worship this Sunday in the Great Hall. This is provided by Spark House Family. They are the publisher of the curriculum we use in Sunday school for the younger children. You will be able to look at some samples and then order products if you like.
