About Pastor Chad:
Pastor Chad was born and raised in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church (LCMS). Upon graduating from Marshalltown High School he attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. There he attained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. He worked briefly for Menard’s in their management program prior to beginning a career in the insurance industry.
Many years he worked as a claims adjuster for a company in Des Moines. While living in Ankeny, Iowa he and his family joined Palestine Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Huxley, Iowa. It was here that he was opened up to the gospel of Jesus Christ and began to sense a “call” to the ministry of word and sacrament. After several years of discerning this call Pastor Chad and his family moved to Dubuque, Iowa in 2006 where he began his theological education at Wartburg Seminary. He graduated seminary in 2010 with a Master of Divinity degree. He served as interim pastor of Ascension Lutheran in Goose Lake, Iowa for six months prior to receiving a permanent call here at Bethany. He was ordained June 4, 2011 at Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley and installed at Bethany on June 12, 2011.
Pastor Chad is married to Amanda who also was born and raised in Marshalltown. Amanda received a degree from Iowa State University in education with an endorsement in special education. She has previously taught special education at the elementary and middle school levels in Urbandale, Iowa and in Dubuque. She is currently working for the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency out of Muscatine, Iowa as a Special Education Consultant. They have two children.
Pastor Chad is thrilled to be the pastor of Bethany Lutheran. He wants to share the gospel of Jesus Christ as it was shared with him within our congregation and outside in our community and world. Much of his theology is based on John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that God sent God’s only Son so that all who believe in Him may not perish but have eternal life.” As he states, “Knowing that God signed and sealed me and made me a part of Christ’s body in my baptism sustains and comforts me daily. I remember I am a child of God and nothing can ever separate me from God’s love.” Pastor Chad is passionate about sharing the gospel and helping others see how God is active in their lives and how God uses each of them in their various “calls” to be the hands and feet of God in the world. He is also passionate about creating ecumenical relationships, creating relationships with youth, and leading people into a deeper relationship with Jesus through prayer and spiritual practices.
In his spare time he enjoys golfing, hiking, pickleball, and spending time with his family.
